On the 31st of January at 14.00 h. at Radisson Hotel the Institute for Public Environment Development held a round table, where the following issues were discussed:
- The role and the contribution of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) for the implementation of the indices of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism in the sphere of the judicial reform, fight against corruption and organized crime;
- The meaning of the Verification and Control Mechanism for the reform in the judicial system, fight against corruption and organized crime:
- Is the chosen approach for implementation of the indices of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism working?
- How do the participants in the process of formulating and implementing the urgent measures evaluate their effectiveness?
- Are these the real measures that have to be implemented?
- What kind of additional resources have the institutions to activate in order to face the requirements of the Mechanism for “active, coordinated and systematic actions” in answer of the expectations of the European Commission?
- For how long will be the Mechanism active?
The representatives of the Institute for Public Environment Development presented the results of an independent civil monitoring over the execution of those measures in the schedules, adopted by the Bulgarian government after each of the monitoring reports of the European Commission – measures for the implementation of which is responsible the Supreme Judicial Council. The realization of the project is supported by the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe.
In the discussion participated members of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Inspectorate of the Supreme Judicial Council, representatives of the Parliamentary Commission for Legal Issues, associations of magistrates, NGOs engaged with the reform in the judicial system and media.
