On 7th of April, 2015 the Institute for Public Environment Development organized a discussion on the technical aspects of the opening of data with experts and administrative representatives of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Statistical Institute, Information Services, the Public Procurement Agency, CNSYS, NGOs and activists.
During the workshop the participants discussed some of the existing the challenges and problems faced by the administration of various public institutions in the process of “opening” existing data. Some new approaches and possible solutions were proposed in order to increase the cooperation with the civic sector as one of the most interested actors in the secondary public-data processing and the ability to use this information through a systemic and analytical approach. Participants took part in the further development of a “road map” for the opening and publishing of data. Thus the meeting presented an opportunity for the interested parties – institutions (which are expected to open their datasets in benefit of the civil society), activists and developers, to exchange ideas and concepts for the most effective work approaches of the forthcoming process.
The “opening” of public datasets is a specific engagement of our country as part of the “Open Government Partnership” Initiative.
